BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent expressed concern for her co-star Jon Kay after the two watched footage of a turtle being released back into the wild.
The turtle, named Nazare, had been discovered on a Cumbrian beach earlier in the year and was later rehabilitated.
After receiving care, the loggerhead turtle was recently set free into the sea, an event viewers witnessed through a heartwarming clip.
Once the video ended, Jon appeared visibly moved, prompting Sally to comment, 'What a great story, oh you look a bit sad!' Jon then shared that it was the handler's confession of missing a proper farewell with the animal that he found so touching, remarking, 'It's heartbreaking!' Sally reassured him that Nazare was now enjoying freedom, adding, 'No algae, no nothing, she looks great!'The pair announced they would chat with Todd German from Sea Life Scarborough to get an update on the turtle.
Sally humorously suggested, 'I wonder if he's even heard from her.
I bet she hasn't been in touch at all.
' To which Jon retorted, 'She doesn't write, she doesn't call, she doesn't email, nothing!' The two chuckled, and Sally concluded, 'She's living her best life, having a fabulous time.
'During the conversation, it was also revealed that Nazare had been spotted by a dog walker in a severe state, covered in lacerations and algae while barely showing any signs of life, before her recovery.
The turtle that found her way into Sea Life had been a guest in similar facilities before, as Scott Blacker disclosed, indicating she was no stranger to human care.
Blacker explained, 'We found out that she was released from the coast of France from La Rochelle aquarium where she had been rehabilitated in June 2023.
