Great Britain - Web content about Jungle
As a warm-up for their headlining slot on Glastonbury’s West Holts Stage this evening (Friday), the west London-based dance project Jungle made a stop in West Berkshire to spread their infectious grooves and funk-laced electronica.
Jungle was the second-to-last act to perform at Wasing Estate’s On The Mount series this year, taking the stage yesterday.
Following the successful launch of the series last year, Wasing significantly improved their lineup in 2024, featuring performances from alternative Australian rockers Crowded House, Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini, folk musician Nick Mulvey, dance music titans Underworld, and Jungle.
To reach the stage, attendees walked for 10 minutes through lush woodland, passing psychedelic sculptures, wooden arches, and hippy-like sages emitting intriguing smells from burning herbs.
This leftfield welcome aimed to foster a communal atmosphere.
The stage itself was conducive to this as well.
Located at the bottom of a hill in a large clearing, everyone could see the stage due to the slope, meaning there was no uncomfortable crowding and plenty of room to dance.
Jungle kicked off their set just as the sun began to set with one of their best-known tracks from their 2014 eponymous debut.
Despite the band consisting of only three core members (Josh Lloyd-Watson, Tom McFarland, and Lydia Kitto), they performed as an octet.
All dressed in monochromatic colors, the eight musicians often blended into the simplistic yet dazzling light show behind them.
The show featured gyrating geometric lines made of a few select colors, embodying the principle of ‘less is more’.
Jungle’s smooth and polished musical style was reflected in their musicianship.
All the songs were played perfectly, with several seamlessly blending into each other.
Some of the highlights included their smash 2023 hit, west coast-inspired tracks, and the optimistic anthem which served as the grand finale.
Throughout the entire concert, attendees were having a great time.
I often saw embraces between new-found friends and loved ones.
Jungle provided the perfect modern disco soundtrack to a pleasant summer evening that celebrated community, music, and love.
