New Zealand - Web content about Maia Ramsden
Maia Ramsden, a middle-distance runner from New Zealand, was dropped by the front pack at the 800m mark during her first-round 1500m race.
However, she ran a fast second half to catch up and finished eighth.
Although this was not enough to secure a place in the final, she was rewarded with a new New Zealand record.
Ramsden admitted that she had miscounted the number of automatic qualifying spots and didn't realize she was set to miss out.
The US-based Kiwi athlete mentioned that she misses her Weet-Bix, but burgers are freely available for post-race refueling.
Ramsden has also smashed the national women's 1500m record and came within a whisker of Olympic qualification.
Additionally, she has won her second NCAA collegiate title after claiming gold in the mile at the Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston.
