Given the Houthis' continued attacks and rejection of the Council's resolutions, Ambassador Wood suggested that it might soon be time for the Council to consider additional actions to respond to the growing threats from the Houthis.

Ambassador Wood emphasized that Iran's provision of these and other lethal weapons to Houthi terrorists violates the Council's resolutions, including the arms embargo established by Resolution 2216.
He called on the Council to respond to Tehran for its flagrant violations and arming of terrorist groups.
He made it clear that any Council member who stands in the way of holding the Houthis and Iran accountable is complicit in undermining the credibility of the Council's resolutions.
Ambassador Wood also expressed concern for the well-being of the Yemeni people, highlighting the fires in the port of Hudaydah and the potential impacts of the destruction of oil refineries and power generation on the flow of humanitarian assistance and commercial imports.
He stated that Yemen is paying the price for Houthi and Iranian actions.
He urged the Council to work together to reduce tensions and ensure that it speaks with one voice to condemn the Houthis' actions and hold them accountable.
The United States remains committed to protecting civilians, resolving the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and seeking a path towards peace for the Yemeni people.
