The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable involved in slapping newly-elected Mandi MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport has been booked for assault on Friday.
This comes a day after she faced suspension following the incident.
The constable in question, Kulwinder Kaur, was soon suspended following the incident that took place at the Chandigarh airport as Ranaut was on her way to board a flight to Delhi on Thursday.
A case has been filed against Kaur in connection with the incident.
According to the Indian Express, an FIR had been registered under Sections 323 (assault) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In a now viral video, Kulwinder Kaur can be heard saying, “My mother was there”, referring to Ranaut’s old statement claiming that women in the farmers’ protest were paid ₹100 each to sit on Delhi borders.
“Kangana said the women were sitting in the farmers’ protests for ₹100.
Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she made that remark,” Kaur said in the video.
Ranaut alleged that the CISF constable “strategically waited” for her to pass through the security check, and then “in a signature Khalistani style, quietly came from behind and hit (her) face without saying a word”.
In a video shared on social media following the incident, Kangana Ranaut, who recently won in the Lok Sabha from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi seat, addressed the altercation wherein she was slapped by CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur at the airport.
Ranaut suggested a link between the attack and terrorism in Punjab.
On Friday, Ranaut took to Instagram to share two stories recounting her experience at the airport.
She drew comparisons between herself and former PM Indira Gandhi, who was assassinated by her bodyguards.
She further claimed that when she confronted the constable, she diverted attention by engaging with other passengers who were recording the incident.
Ranaut insinuated that the constable’s actions were politically motivated.
